The only festival in the world dedicated to radio orchestras: ”RadiRo” 2018 to start on November 18th!

Just a month left until the start of the only festival in the world dedicated to radio orchestras: RadiRo – The International Festival of Radio Orchestras, an event produced and organized by Radio Romania! The 4th edition of the festival, organized every two years, will take place from November 18th to November 25th and will bring in front of the Romanian audience some of the most prestigious European ensembles.

A premiere of this edition of the festival is the new jazz section, which will complete the symphony programme. The 8 classical music concerts will be hosted at the Romanian Radio Hall, while the 4 jazz concerts will take place at the Auditorium Hall – MNAR (National Museum of Art of Romania). RadiRo 2018 will give the opportunity to music lovers to listen live in Bucharest to the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra (UK), who will perform two concerts at the Romanian Radio Hall (on the 22nd and 23rd of November), under the baton of conductors Moritz Gnann and Ben Gernon, featuring soloists Andrei Ioniță (cello) and Kristóf Baráti (violin).

The MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra (Germany), the oldest European radio orchestra, will perform two concerts at the RadiRo festival, on November 19th and 20th, 2018, under the baton of conductor Robert Trevino, an occasion for the audience to meet two outstanding soloists: violinist Simone Lamsma and pianist Mihai Ritivoiu. Other two important European ensembles will perform during the Festival: RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, together with the “host” orchestra of the event, the Romanian Radio National Orchestra.

The event will feature an impressively varied repertoire: Maurice Ravel – suite Daphnis and Chloé, Claude DebussyPrélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, Gustav MahlerSymphony No. 5, P. I. Tchaikovsky Romeo and Juliet – Overture Fantasy, Nikolai Rimski-KorsakovScheherazade, symphony suite, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart The Marriage of Figaro Overture, together with the two rhapsodies authored by George Enescu and a few highly valuable works, but performed more rarely, like the symphony poem A Hero’s Life by Richard Strauss,  Violin Concerto no. 2 by Béla Bartók and the Symphony no. 2 by S. Rachmaninoff.

The jazz concerts series will be performed by big bands belonging to public radio broadcasters from Denmark, Croatia and Romania. The top guest musician of the jazz concerts series will be Aura Urziceanu, who will return to Romania especially for this event, to perform with the Romanian Radio Big Band.

All concerts performed during the Festival will be broadcast live by Radio Romania, recorded and broadcast later by the Romanian Television. Concerts will be taken over and broadcast by the radio members of the European Broadcasting Union.
